Shape the Next Generation of Bioinformatics Talent

At SYMBIO NEXUS, we believe the future of discovery lies in empowering the next generation of scientists with both rigorous computational skills and real-world problem-solving experience. Our internship program is a selective, project-based training initiative designed for students and early-career researchers who are passionate about bioinformatics and eager to learn by doing.

Practical Research Training

This is not a passive learning course. It’s an immersive opportunity to contribute to real research projects while receiving structured mentorship from an industry practitioner.

Training Overview

  • Format: Remote, project-based learning program

  • Duration: Flexible (typically 3-6 months)

  • Commitment: Part-time (approximately 15-20 hours per week)

  • Program Structure: This is a structured bioinformatics training program designed to provide participants with hands-on research experience, guided mentorship, and exposure to real-world bioinformatics workflows. Participants will work on supervised projects, develop analytical skills, and learn how to apply bioinformatics tools in practical research settings.

  • Outcome: By the end of the program, participants will:

    • Complete a defined bioinformatics research project

    • Build a professional project portfolio

    • Gain experience in scientific writing and research communication

    • Have the opportunity to publish their work (depending on project outcomes and quality of results)

    • Receive a certificate of completion

Who Should Apply?

We are looking for highly motivated candidates who are:

  • Final-year undergraduates, recent graduates, or Master’s/PhD students in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or related life sciences.
  • Self-starters with a foundational understanding of biology and programming (R/Python).
  • Eager to move beyond coursework and apply their skills to real biological datasets.
  • Able to demonstrate problem-solving ability and a strong work ethic.

The Selection Process

To ensure a high-caliber and committed cohort, we follow a merit-based selection:

  1. Application: Submit your CV and a brief statement of purpose via email.
  2. Technical Screening: Qualified applicants will receive a practical problem-solving exercise to assess core analytical and computational thinking.
  3. Interview: Short-listed candidates will have a virtual interview to discuss their interests, goals, and approach to the test.
  4. Offer: Successful candidates will be invited to join the next cohort.

Only those who demonstrate the requisite skill, curiosity, and dedication will be selected.

Potential Project Areas

Interns will be matched to projects based on their skills and interests, which may include:

  • Processing and analyzing bulk RNA-seq or single-cell RNA-seq data.
  • Assisting in the development and testing of automated analysis pipelines.
  • Exploring datasets for antimicrobial resistance (AMR) markers or metagenomic profiles.
  • Contributing to literature reviews, data curation, or visualization for ongoing research.
